Ø DO YOU KNOW WHAT GYNECOLOGICAL CANCER IS? LETS LEARN ABOUT IT

Any cancer that starts in a woman’s reproductive system is termed as gynecological cancer.

There are five main types of gynecological cancer namely cervical, vulvar, ovarian, vaginal and uterine.

Each type of cancer is associated with a month to spread awareness about and gynecological cancer is associated with September.

Thus in September there are many campaigns which work towards spreading awareness about the same and educate people regarding its treatment, symptoms, etc.

 

 

 

Ø HOW DO YOU KNOW ITS GYNECOLOGICAL CANCER?

Since there are many types of gynecological cancers each part affected with cancer shows different symptoms. It is important to know which symptoms are common to most of them.

Here is a list of symptoms that can help you detect cancer :

·  Abnormal vaginal bleeding

·  Blood along with urine even though one is not on here period

·  Acute pain in the abdomen and pelvic region

·  Constant bloating, irritation and constipation

·  One of the most important symptoms is the frequent urge to urinate, loss of weight and a lot of weakness along with the feeling of fatigue.

 

When one visits the doctor regarding all these symptoms the doctor questions the patient on past medical history, and a physical test is done. If in these the doctor finds certain problems he or she advises to go for specific blood tests, pap tests, computed tomography scans and MRIs.

If cancer is confirmed then a biopsy is done.

 

Ø LET’S TAKE A LOOK ON THE CAUSES OF THIS TYPE OF CANCER

One of the most prominent causes of gynecological cancer is genetics. It is important to know if someone in your family of the previous generation was affected with this type of cancer so that one can take immediate care and action if she shows some of the symptoms mentioned above.

The age of the woman is another factor.  Most women who have been detected by uterine and ovarian cancer are of 63 to 67 years of age.

The most important factor leading to ovarian, vulvar and vaginal cancer is not having safe sexual intercourse. HPV- Human Papilomavirus is often associated with gynecological cancer which is a sexually transmitted disease. Thus having safe sex and use of condoms is advised.

 

 

Ø HERE ARE SOME PRECAUTIONS TO PREVENT THIS TYPE OF CANCER

Having safe sexual intercourse and usage of condoms.

Visiting the doctor immediately if she shows these symptoms

Taking the HPV vaccine which is available for girls from the age of 11 to 28 years.

Checking gene mutations and past medical history.

Ovarian Cancer and Fallopian Tube Cancer awareness is spread in the month of September along with Gynecological cancer.
